We’ve always believed the best gifts tell stories. This Christmas, we’re thrilled to share a new chapter with Kāpiti Coast-based artist Rachel Walker.
Rachel (also known as Walkerillo) creates stunning watercolour, spray paint, pen and ink artworks inspired by the natural world. Her drippy, energetic style captures the attitude and beauty of Aotearoa’s birds, sea creatures, and wild animals with both loose form and precise detail. Originally from Napier and trained at Massey University in Wellington, she recently moved to sunny Kāpiti, practically our backyard. Her work has appeared everywhere from NZ Post stamps to Blunt Umbrellas.
This summer, Rachel has designed an exclusive sleeve for our Christmas Gift Boxes. We worked with her to create something festive without the usual Christmas clichés. Rachel’s answer? Pōhutukawa, kākābeak, and the perfectly festive kākāriki. “It’s our most festive native bird, being red and green!” she reckons.
The result is a design that celebrates a uniquely Kiwi Christmas, one that honours our summer season and native treasures. Every box becomes a little gallery piece alongside the artisan treats inside.
Working with Rachel represents something bigger for us. We’ve spent years connecting people with amazing food producers across New Zealand. Now we’re extending that support to local artists, creating beautiful collaborations that showcase multiple forms of Kiwi creativity in one thoughtful gift.
This partnership marks the first of many artist collaborations we’re planning. Each will celebrate different creative voices whilst staying true to what makes local special.
